No More Rolex

Rolex is out. Land Rover is in. So now, will we say we are going to "Land Rover" when referring to the Kentucky Three Day Event? The landscape of equestrian sponsorship is changing. The field is narrowing with Longines and Land Rover taking the lead. Rolex still has the grand slam. As an Amateur, I look forward to the Great American Insurance Group Dressage Nationals and the AECs sponsored by Nutrena and you guessed it, Land Rover. I have to be honest, with the changing landscape of sponsors, I had to look several of them up as I wasn’t aware of what many of them were. Just me? If not, here’s a look at who is paying for us to have fun on the weekends:

Adequan—it’s an intramuscular injection for degenerative or traumatic joint dysfunction and associated lameness of the carpal and hock joints. It is given every 4 days for 28 days, which is approximately 7 injections for a month. They don’t mention how often to repeat it on the website so that’ll be a question for your vet. There is also an intra-articular injection that is given once a week for 5 weeks. The active ingredients are polysulfated glycosaminoglycan (PSGAG). As an Orthopaedic Surgeon, I could wax poetic on the different joint supplements, but that is way beyond the scope of this blog....and would require a copay #justjoking! In all seriousness, every case is unique so a discussion with your veterinarian would help you decide wether this treatment would be helpful for your equine partner.

Nutrena—I had seen this is the dog food isle so when I started seeing the signs at the in gate, I decided to take a look. This company has 8 different lines of feed with each having multiple varieties from there.

Dechra—A pharmaceutical company with a variety of medications for dogs, cats, and horses including antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, anesthesia, endocrine and electrolyte support to name a few. You would get these through your vet.

Neue Schule—I clicked on this and it sent me to Metlar-us.com. Neue Schule is the official bit of US equestrian. They use computer aided design (CAD) to design ergonomically engineered bits. The Salox Gold (Registered Trademark) bits incorporate a patented sweeter warmer metal. Metlar, LLC is the parent company started by Mette Larsen, an adult amateur who rose to national acclaim winning the 2014 US Championship at the Intermediare-1 and Pris St. George levels. She did this all while building a premium performance company that specialized in quality equipment and prestigious fashion accessories. Mette-you rock!!

Perfect Products—this could mean a lot of different things to different people! So I had to take a look. This company sells supplements, aka neutriceuticals, “dedicated t the comfort, well being, and performance of top equine athletes”. They started with a product called Perfect Prep Calming System and have grown from there. Did I tell you about the time the Judge at C stopped me in the middle of my dressage test and asked why my mare was spooking since there was nothing going on around us? Proud parent moment for sure so this sounds like something I need to look into!

Of course this is an endless list with tack, insurance, travel, and clothing companies all showing up at our shows to help us look, feel, and perform our best. Take a look around the show grounds and meet the vendors, you never know what you might find.
